What is the Foundation?

For 25 years, the Nature Foundation has been South Australia’s principle wildlife and environment charity, working with scientists, the community, business and governments to conserve our precious natural biodiversity.

In that time the Foundation has raised more than $4 million for on-ground projects, education programs and vital research.

We’re a non-political, non-government organisation governed by a council of experienced conservationists, scientists, business and professional people all serving in a voluntary capacity.

We actively promote good environmental practices and foster community understanding of the value of our natural heritage and the importance of conservation – now and for the future.

The Foundation derives its funds from a variety of sources, the primary one being individuals and families who regularly make generous donations to support the important work of the Foundation.

We receive considerable, generous financial support from the Commonwealth Government and both financial and in-kind support from the State Government. We have received substantial bequests which form the basis of trusts where the annual interest earned goes to support conservation research projects and on-ground management work.

The Foundation is indebted to BankSA which provides its customers with the option of the Greencard credit card where a proportion of the interest charged flows to the Foundation to support its work.

The Foundation also runs a calendar of special fundraising events.

Over the years the Foundation has been able to build up an investment portfolio which provides an annual interest payment that supports the funding of projects, scholarships and administration.
