Supporter profile: Jane Louise Evans

October 12, 2026

In this supporter profile, we shine the spotlight on one of our amazing members, volunteer and Nature Foundation Artist Residency for 2025/26 along with two other artist, Jane Louise Evans.

How long have you been a Nature Foundation supporter, and how did you first get involved?

I have been a supporter for about five years. My journey began during a visit to the incredibly stunning Pretty Point campsite at Hiltaba Nature Reserve. The volunteer on duty was very welcoming and explained the Foundation's vital conservation and restoration work. My partner and I were so impressed that we knew right away we wanted to get involved as volunteers.

Why do you support Nature Foundation?

I support the Foundation because their core mission deeply aligns with my values and background as a freshwater ecologist. Seeing firsthand how former pastoral properties like Hiltaba and Witchelina are being actively restored convinced me that this organisation is truly making a difference for Australia's ecosystems. Discovering their artistic initiatives a few years later was an incredible bonus, as it perfectly bridged my scientific background with my passion for wildlife art.

What do you find most rewarding about your involvement with Nature Foundation?

The most rewarding part has been the incredible synergy between science, art, and hands-on conservation. Experiencing both properties over a few years as a volunteer enabled me to become deeply familiar with, and fall in love with the spectacular landscape and wildlife. Having the opportunity to translate that narrative into my mixed-media printmaking has successfully realized a long-term goal. This passion was beautifully facilitated when I was awarded the Nature Foundation Artist Residency for 2025/26 alongside two other artists. This exhibition, Nature’s Foundations 5, is ongoing until 23 October at Light Square Gallery, Adelaide.

What are your hopes for the future of nature conservation and biodiversity in Australia?

My hope is that we continue to use both science and creative storytelling to inspire people to protect these landscapes. I would like to see Australia's unique wildlife and sometimes fragile landscape protected against climate and pest threats, so they survive for future generations.
